Do businesses like Amazon that short-change our community affect our ability to respond to a crisis?
In this pandemic, Bridge thanks first responders and the many people that help our communities work together. When I think of communities during Covid-19, Amazon comes to mind. I do think there is value in looking back at the last 24 months leading up to today and asking: did Amazon slow down our community's ability to respond?
Amazon historically pays less in corporate taxes than other ...

When we make products overseas, are we long-term weakening our businesses and our communities, and in fact strengthening the product’s country of origin? As the Times reports, FedEx is terminating its ground delivery agreement with Amazon at the end of August, thereby passing on the delivery of millions of packages.
Amazon has historically partnered with ...

We all have to provide customer service, and a historic hallmark of customer service is the free 1-800 number. Today’s WSJ reminds us that someone had to invent that and be the first to offer it. Not coincidentally, it was a telephone company: AT&T.

Good news: your indie store just gained some ground on Amazon.
About 60% of Amazon sales are via third-party sellers. They pass thru what it calls the 'marketplace.' These Amazon purchases have not historically been taxed because the purchase is made from a business in one state and shipped to another state. But that loophole started to close last year when the Supreme Court ruled that states can collect tax on these types of Internet purchases.
Many state laws have acted on that Supreme ...

A game-changing service often wins in two out of three areas: - Price - Quality - Time
Historically, when you adjust one of these variables, you negatively affect one of the others. For example, if you want a project to be done faster, you either reduce the quality or increase the price. When you want something cheaper, you often get it slower or reduce the quality.
A revolutionary service will change two or more of these factors with no noticeable impact on the other factors. For example, Uber ...
