A recent experience I had may be related to this topic. On Valentine's Day this year, while I was carrying flowers to meet a friend, an Amazon delivery person intentionally tried to push me out of his way while he was pushing a cart full of Amazon products. Then, when I glared at him for doing so, he verbally assaulted me and taunted me to physically engage in a fight, ...

New feature: you can now control expected delivery dates for products.
On your Details pages, your software outputs a date by which a customer can expect a product. Showing this date is a compelling strategy to get customers to order. As a reference, Amazon offers these expected delivery dates.
You can now change that date. For example, if today's date is May 1st, you can set the date to May 5th or May 15th.
You can edit this setting on the "General Settings" page under &...

Yiren Lu shares her experience of setting up a Shopify store in the New York Times magazine. Ms. Lu reports the setup process was easy, but her online Shopify store failed because it lacked marketing, aka eyeballs and orders. In her next article, I hope Ms. Lu tries Bridge. Bridge Store helps members fill the marketing component that Shopify is missing. When a store joins Bridge, Bridge instantly points hundreds of links to the store from other Bridge members, which Google sees and ...

While walking on 9th St. in Manhattan, I noticed an American Express sidewalk decal. This decal inspired me to create a Bridge sidewalk decal for indie stores.
I think that stating 'shop local' or 'shop small' misses many of the key desires by shoppers. I think that customers want low prices, lots of selection, and fast delivery. Those are the reasons they shop at Amazon and at other big box stores. Ask yourself: would you shop at a store that has less selection? Higher prices? Slower ...

Have you considered selling on Amazon? If you do, you'll never know your customer. Modern Retail did a story on subscription boxes and shared this about a seller's experience on Amazon:
"...one concern is the limited data that Amazon shares with its sellers. When Speach fulfills a customer order on Amazon, he sees the order number, the type of item purchased, the delivery location and the deadline for sending out a shipment. He can’t see any personal details about...

Macy's said it has partnered with DoorDash for same-day delivery through nearly 500 Macy’s stores nationwide, with no minimum order required, according to an emailed press release.
Macy's and payments company Klarna on Tuesday announced a five-year partnership that will allow Macy's customers to pay in four interest-free installments.
The health of our communities and even ourselves may depend on whether indie stores like Powell's succeeds.
Powell's Books, one of the nation's largest and best-known book retailers, has stopped selling on Amazon after 20+ years, shares RetailDive. The store cited how bad Amazon is long-term for itself and communities. The store realized it was sharpening its executioner’s sword, as Scott Galloway has said ruefully.
I found this quote from the owner insightful:...

While waiting for breakfast, I noticed this ‘Boycott Amazon’ sticker. I think that getting customers to stop something—or start something—is a tough practice. There are fields of science (psychology) and marketing (branding) dedicated to this. Is it easier to get someone to start or stop (boycott) something?
I think that offering a solution (start something) is easier.
I recommend that stores encourage customers to choose them over Amazon because the ...

You can now more easily view the credit status for a registry item. When viewing an order, just look below the product's name, and your Bridge will show you the registry accounting status. In the example shown, there is credit due to the registrant for the value of the item shown.
Accurately managing registry credit is an important part of keeping your registry accounting books accurate and making registrants and gift-givers happy. Let's imagine an order has three products in it. With ...

That is the question my family posed to me last night during our more-frequent FaceTime conversations.
With the passing Labor Day weekend, students entering their in-person or online school year, and the ending of a strange summer season during a global pandemic, people are looking forward to a time that can bring spirit and happiness to the darkness: the holidays.
But how holly and jolly will this holiday season be in terms of shopping? After all, the holidays are notorious ...

Today’s Times shares how Amazon sends out plenty of press releases announcing innovative services but actually invests the vast majority of its resources into very old-fashioned techniques.
I believe the business world often gives too much attention to innovation. I imagine this is due to many business people consuming news, books, and other media that laud innovation. I believe the reason these outlets overpromote innovation that one can’t sell a book promising: boring. &...

Good news: Bridge is helping your business make more sales and stop Amazon's growth. The reason: your Bridge team has gone to great lengths to ensure your Bridge software loads very quickly for your shoppers. A report shares that 41% of shoppers jump to Amazon when a site is slow. The report shares that the fastest site tested loaded in 2.2 seconds and the slowest was 43.9 seconds. Bridge's sites often load within 2 to 3 seconds, which places your Bridge Store at the front of the pack in ...

When a business offers a website, it's a costly venture. A business, such as an indie store, brand, or sales rep group, will build the site and then have to maintain it. On a day-to-day basis, it has to ensure the pages load quickly. This often requires the business use image-optimization software to reduce the page size and a CDN (content delivery network) to get the content closer to the visitor's geographic location. These costs add up.
Bridge and Shopify both bundle many services under a ...

Many businesses are struggling during the state-mandated shelter-in-place orders. One industry that is weathering the storm well is technology. Technology companies often deliver services digitally, which obviously makes them ideal to side-step these orders--but they often utilize another feature that makes them profitable now and in general: subscriptions.
Scott Galloway, a business leader and host of an online business class called 'The Sprint,' recently brought to my attention the ...
