To our dear friends of Parkleigh,
Yes, it is actually happening. Parkleigh is making the very difficult decision to temporarily close our doors in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
We know this is the most responsible decision we can make for you, our beloved customers, and also for our beloved staff.
For the time being, we will remain just a phone call away, and we will have a minimal staff on hand to take a phone order, or if you are simply seeking a friendly chat. Our website will remain ...

In this time of uncertainty, how can your store help customers? I recommend reviewing the strategies of two retailers. The Fisherman's Wife (in North Carolina) and Elizabeth Clair's (in Mississippi) are promoting pick up and curbside delivery. Buying online and picking up in store is referred to as "BOPIS."
Target now sources 80% of its online orders from stores, not warehouses, shares the Wall St. Journal.
Stores have less foot traffic (foot traffic to U.S. stores fell about 6.2% on Black Friday ) and more online shopping (online sales reached $7.4 billion on Black Friday, up from $6.2 billion last year), forcing stores to convert 'floor' employees into roles dealing with e-commerce and shipping. "At the Brooklyn store around 80 workers handle internet orders, collecting products from shelves or...

Amazon delivers packages to shoppers 3 days sooner than competitors, shares Retail Dive. Read more:
Target’s e-commerce sales are up 31%—largely due to same-delivery and pickup, shares today’s WSJ.
Are you offering same-day delivery? Pickup? You should be. Otherwise Target and Amazon will get your customer. Reminder: Amazon now allows customers to pickup orders at Kohl’s.

Does Bridge help store owners live longer? For example, do we help Brooks Terry live longer? Store owner Susan Hoechner? The answer is yes, and I'll explain.
Bridge helps Susan and Brooks save months of time via the Smart Products service. This can be viewed as time saved--or more importantly: as an extension of their lives. As a reference, Scott Galloway, an NYU professor and media savant, recently made this insight regarding life-extending services:
"Walmart Delivery Unlimited: At $98/year,...

Amazon is increasingly using robots to deliver goods and services. One could say that Alexa is a robot minus the body. As Amazon grows, we're facing a glut of empty Main Street shops and layoffs. This reminds me of the Terminator movie series in which robots wreck destruction on human civilization.
We just need Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in an Amazon delivery commercial. "I'll be back," he says, "to pick up your return."
PS - Curious about claims on robot-killing jobs? Check out Presidential...

The Head of the Rudin Center for Transportation Policy says it’s now easier and cheaper to order things online than go in the store.
The Rudin Center for Transportation is part of New York University, and is named after Lewis Rudin—the developer of the wholesale building 41 Madison.
If online is better according to the head of the Rudin Center, what is the Rudin family—which owns 41 Madison—doing to help tenants and visitors adapt to this fact?
This holiday season more shoppers will shop online ...

Does traffic seem worse? It may be your neighbors’ 1.5 million daily packages being delivered, shares today’s Times.
My neighborhood is bombarded by trucks—and delivery people often ringing every apartment buzzer in a building to contact just one apartment.
Interesting stats from the article: + Homes now get more packages delivered than businesses. + Traffic speeds have slowed over the last decade. + 2 million square Feet of warehouse space is being built in NYC. + Carbon dioxide emissions ...

From which store would you shop, the one offering free 2-day shipping or the one charging $105 for standard delivery?
The first one, of course. Which leads us to the rules your store needs to follow:
Rule #1: Do NOT seek to break even on shipping Rule #2: Seek to LOSE money on shipping!
Most retailers share with me their fear about losing money on shipping. What ends up happening? They end up losing: the entire sale. What about that $1,000 Herend order? The store is less likely to get it because it'...

Amazon is launching eyeglasses to help it better view your world, shares today’s WSJ. The ‘invite only’ strategy made me laugh. Oddly, our local Amazon delivery guy rings my doorbell by anything but invitation only. I don’t use Amazon, but he rings it daily when he has packages for other apartments. Alexa, please have your delivery people stop bothering neighbors. :)
