Our Leaderboard web page. We track and display the top performing wedding registry brands, retailers, and products. Each month we publish a new list showcasing the winners for the previous month.
Citi Bike, a bike-sharing service in New York City, has a competition for those who help redistribute the network’s bikes. It displays the top helpers, called Bike Angels, on an online leaderboard. Citi Bike gives points, which can be redeemed for monetary credit, for participating. I found this system and their leaderboard inspiring because we, too, offer a leaderboard.
Our leaderboard (named Leaderboard) that tracks the best-performing wedding registry brands, retailers, and products. Citi Bike’s trophy illustration encouraged me to wonder: what if we had a Shop Local trophy graphic? I drew a rough sketch. 📝
The Citi Bike Bike Angel program also inspired me to wonder if we could give points to our members (brands, retailers, reps, etc.) for helping improve the network. For example, a store employee could earn 1 point by tagging a brand’s Syncing product with a keyword, 5 points for adding a description, and 10,000 points for inviting a new brand. Shop Local points, like Citi Bike points, could be redeemed for cash or credit towards the service.
Excerpt from The Times article about Citi Bike’s point system:
“Removing a bike from a completely full station: up to four points. Docking at an empty station? That’s worth up to another four. People who move at least four bikes in a 24-hour period get all their points multiplied by a factor of three.
Lyft pays 20 cents per point. Each ride generates a maximum of 24 points. In perfect conditions, a person on a 3X streak who relocates a bike from a full dock to a completely empty one can earn as much as $4.80 for a single ride.”
