The Michael Aram Goldsmith Collection is an homage to the simple beauty of the metal forger's craft. Hammertone techniques have been a cornerstone in jewelry and metal crafting for millennia, and each mark bears silent testament to the skill of the craftsman. The Goldsmith Collection of fine porcelain strives to capture the random and organic feeling of this age-old process. The porcelain is also designed to integrate perfectly with any of Michael Aram’s other dinnerware patterns.

This article about small banks could’ve very well been written about small retail stores. The future is tech. Bank of America has spent $20b on tech since 2012. Big retailers have likely spent that or more. And small businesses often don’t have the resources to make customers happy online. Much less survive a hacking attempt. I spent the last 2 weeks dealing with hackers from Asia. It took 3 tech people 2 weeks. Expensive. Time consuming. If small stores had to deal with this on their own, most ...

National retailers are investing in tech startups in order to push back against Amazon. One such alliance is Home Depot’s investment in Roadie, an Uber like delivery service that utilizes people’s own cars for delivering goods. Walmart and Delta also use the service.
As you may recall, there is a war going on between the camps of Walmart, Home Depot and the like vs Amazon.
Today the New York Times shares that China-backed hackers have targeted many U.S. companies including Boeing and T-Mobile. The hacking attempts on Bridge originating in Asia may be related to these other wider attacks:
Amazon changed retail a lot, but don't take your eye off Facebook. Facebook just planted a flag showing its retail aspirations by buying GrokStyle. Grok may be an ugly name but it's pretty cool tech: Grok's tech lets a person take a picture of a plate, for example, and find that plates that match that one online. That's pretty dangerous for brick-and-mortar retail stores. This promotes 'show rooming.'
Wanna see the future of retail? First, look back. Look back at the newspaper industry and its hard, swift fall over the last 15 years. Facebook (and other tech platforms) replaced newspapers across the country as the world’s information and advertising platforms. General lesson: platforms replace individual players. Next up: Amazon’s platform is going to substitute national brand (and retail) names with its private label business. Don’t like it? Amazon doesn’t care. It owns the world’s largest ...

The Michael Aram Heart Collection is created around the simple, universal symbol of love, hope, friendship, and caring. Handcrafted to perfection, it features a brass and nickel finish.

Wired’s Zeynep Tufekci argues that tech platforms (social media) will likely grow up much like the automobile industry did.
Ps- At first, I thought this was an illustration of a unicorn with a black eye. Ha ha. That would’ve been fitting, too!
The Michael Aram Molten Frost Collection takes its inspiration from the lore of ancient craftsmanship and the application of these time-honored techniques to modern shapes and environments. Intricately hand-welded edges make each piece an individual work of art, with no two pieces being identical.

India is passing laws to stop big tech from cornering the market. Does the U.S. government need to take a page from India? China, not our first go to for policy direction, has similarly had success with regulating its market to support local tech companies over international ones. I think some large U.S. tech companies engage in predatory behavior and have advantages that need to be curtailed to allow smaller, local U.S. companies to grow. Unfettered capitalism isn’t capitalism. It’s abusive ...
