Brochure websites vs. E-commerce websites Squarespace & Wordpress vs. Bridge & Shopify
Carol Schroeder, a store owner who pens a nice blog about retail, reviews website design services in her post this week. Carol mostly covers 'brochure style' website design tools. Brochure sites are characterized by attractive pictures and often a lack of functionality. My hope here is to stress how different brochure websites are from online stores. It's also to share my view that brochure sites are good for ...

Are more retailers following Bridge's business model? This week's Wall St. Journal reports that more retailers are experimenting with not keeping stock in their stores. What if a customer places an order? The store mails it from the warehouse. Bridge has been at the forefront of this trend: starting in 2007, we output 1,000s of items on our retail members' websites and invited people to shop for products that were not in the store's immediate physical stock.
A christening or baptism is such a special and touching moment in a baby, and the parents life. There are many gifts that are customary and traditional for this type of occasion. But over the years, more modern gifts have been adopted to encompass different faiths and family backgrounds. We put together a list of gifts that encompass a wonderful balance of both modern and tradition. All are time honored keepsakes that will honor the special day in this baby’s life.
With Memorial Day kicking off the unofficial start of summer two weekends ago, we thought we would share with you a few of our favorite "MOTTAHEDEH SUMMER PICKS"!
Few things scream summer more than lobsters, shells and coral. Did you know the piggy bank originated from the 15th century?
In Europe, in the 15th century, nearly all house wares and other household items made from pottery were made out of orange clay called Pygg Clay. This included the containers made to hold small items such as the coins that workers earned each day. The coins would remain in those “pygg jars” until they were needed, so that they wouldn’t be lost.
Interestingly, the name of the barnyard animal did not become “pygg” (or today’s “pig”) ...

How does a Main Street store open an online gift registry service?
I thought of this question after reading about a similar project in this week's Wall Street Journal. The writer Joanna Stern asked how someone can setup a new, informational website quickly. (Please find the WSJ article here.)
The writer picked Squarespace as her favorite. If I could, I'd like to ask the writer Ms. Stern to do the same test amongst online bridal registry store providers.
In under 30 minutes, a retailer can open ...

David Tutera's Rules for Pets in Weddings
One wedding trend I’m seeing more and more: A couple’s furry friend taking part in the ceremony. I happen to love when pets are involved in the processional of a wedding, and I've actually done several weddings that included dogs. One of these featured a pair of pugs dressed in a bridal gown and tuxedo, respectively. Adorable! Other weddings had the pups serve as ring bearers, strutting down the aisle with satchels in their mouths containing the wedding ...

Facebook recently allowed people to request information from businesses. For example, one can request that a business add its website or price ranges for items (area highlighted in yellow in screen shot).
Bridge has been using this approach since 2008. Starting 7 years ago, retailers have been able to ask brands to add items to the Bridge network. Bridge and Facebook are both using a crowd-sourcing approach to request and thereby enhance information.
When businesses team up and share information, ...
