The New York Times and Wall Street Journal are teaming up to fight Facebook and Google in advertising, reports today's Times. They are doing so to gain better leverage when advertising via the "duopoly."
How are our industry's players collaborating to strengthen their position?

Are you still offering FREE gift wrapping this holiday season? According to the Wall St. Journal, stores are doing cheaper versions of the wrapping or charging for it. If you're one of the Independent retailers still doing it, keep it up. Service is what we're all about. Amazon and the big box retailers are cutting corners and it shows.

When you think of Champagne, do you think of...the French resistance during World War II? Probably not, but today's Wall Street Journal reviews a book that connects the dots. Author Alan Tardi shares the history and production behind a drink that helps many of our Bridge retailers sell Champagne flutes. Here's to knowing what makes Champage pop. Cheers.

1. The article's headline is obviously hyperbole meant to catch your attention. I guess the future of journalism is exaggerated headlines!
2. I replied to Michael that the author is likely wrong about stores streamlining their spaces.

Are more retailers following Bridge's business model? This week's Wall St. Journal reports that more retailers are experimenting with not keeping stock in their stores. What if a customer places an order? The store mails it from the warehouse. Bridge has been at the forefront of this trend: starting in 2007, we output 1,000s of items on our retail members' websites and invited people to shop for products that were not in the store's immediate physical stock.
Wall Street Journal's weekend magazine did a nice spread on jewelry. Mottahedeh's monkey bookends were featured alongside Chanel and Buccellati jewelry.
