Jason has suggested that I add these Specialty Shop Retailing posts to my shop's Bridge feed every Monday, so I'm going to try to do that. In the meantime, I invite you to take a look at some of the past entries - and to watch for "Savvy Store Solutions," my bimonthly column in Gifts and Decorative Accessories magazine. I want us all to be successful!

In Andrew Chen’s book The Cold Start Problem, he breaks the network effect into three parts: engagement, acquisition, and economize. At Shop Local, we rely on the network effect and its three parts. I feel that we’re succeeding in terms of engagement but need improvement in acquisition.

Sam Gross, who drew many cartoons for The New Yorker, passed away this month at the age of 89. I've been a The New Yorker cartoon fan for years, and often include them in the footer of our emails to clients.
I'd not thought of the people behind those cartoons, but it's people like Sam that labor over them.
Your physical store can be a great asset in this ‘Age of Amazon’—just ask Warby Parker.
Details:
- Warby Parker has 200 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
- Retailers report that online advertising costs have increased 15%-20% in the last two years, making physical stores more attractive.
- Brands report that in-store shoppers buy more per purchase.
I believe the The Wall Journal should have noted a caveat about using Warby Parker as a poster child ...

The studio operates 30 kilns and turns out more than 20 ...

Do you have a good friend at work? These days, fewer people do. According to the New York Times, 40 years ago, 50% of us had a close friend at work; that number has dropped to less than 20%. Work has become a more transactional place. We go to the office to be efficient, not to form bonds. We may have plenty of productive conversations, but we also have fewer meaningful relationships. That’s not a good thing because work friends play a big part in our happiness.
Clearly this gorgeous bunny has been eating her veggies because her gray coat is sparkling! Aware that her herbivore diet has made her the prettiest girl in the meadow, she has added to her allure by donning a beautiful floral garland.
