Online shopping is having a funny side effect: offline lobby congestion. Today's WSJ shares that part of the $335 billion in e-commerce arrives in apartment building lobbies where it piles up. Living in NYC, we can attest that this is true. We see more zombie packages in the lobby each day.

Artists are an important part of local business. Today in the East Village I spotted Lee Erickson who is a local New York City water color painter. He's got some great pieces including 5th Ave. and Pete's Tavern on Irving Place. Prices range around $400. He also does commission work. Lee Erickson: 917-923-8832
Ps- ask him about his days as a deep sea diver

At the coffee shop this morning, we noticed this guide to local businesses here in the East Village. Created by the East Village Community Coalition, the little booklet has maps and lists neat spots including stores dedicated to sake and yarn (...not the same location!).

As a supporter of local businesses, we like to give a shout out to those local artists like Jim Power. For over 20 years Jim has been decorating East Village lampposts with tile dedications to local bars, shops, personalities, and events.
Reminiscent of old world pottery from the medieval city of Talavera, beautiful tile patterns decorate textured pieces in timeless blues. 100% melamine is great for indoor or outdoor use, dishwasher safe. By Q Squared NYC.
