NYC is forming a new group to help protect its infrastructure. I'd like to see a similar group formed to help protect its residents and businesses, as well as police business websites and hosting companies to ensure they're meeting accepted standards for security. Currently, our cyber security laws are reactive vs preventative.
Zola is increasing its service offerings and is shown here advertising on the NYC subway its wedding invitation service.
Bridge is likewise considering ways for your store to offer brides more services under ‘one roof.’

Walmart sales increased 4% last quarter—but that wasn’t easy. Walmart has been spending heavily on its operations and website.
There is a ‘Cold War’ going on between Walmart and Amazon, and seeing Amazon stumble in NYC and Walmart increase sales helps keep the equilibrium.

Bridge is based in the East Village—across the East River from Long Island City where Amazon planned to get $3 billion in government tax breaks to build a new office. It promised 25k “high paying” jobs. Notably, one in five store fronts in the East Village are empty. The reasons for this vacancy vary. I’m not sure if Amazon abandoning its new HQ was a win for America but a loss for the East Village or maybe a win for both. I wish to see my local community grow and America grow. I hope NYC can ...

What does preservation have to do with Amazon? Well, one is sometimes a government/city promoted and regulated attempt to preserve culture, practices and memories. For example, landmark preservation may be bestowed on a building and limit exterior changes to a building—like a famous old bookstore. Amazon, on the other hand, is emblematic of the opposite: it’s not about maintaining cultural norms like community or cultural centers. It often undermines cultural and civic locations by using Wall St...

As you likely know, Gump’s filed for bankruptcy. The famous San Francisco indie store's crash is having wide-ranging consequences for our industry. 41 Madison tenants likely lost more than $1,000,000 on Gump's.
Yet, the economy and stock market are doing very well. How to explain these contrarian events? Furthermore, you surely are asking: How did Gump's reach this low--and more ...

I agree with Carol about making a non-linear store plan. As an example, William-Wayne, which has two locations in NYC, has almost serpentine pathways around the stores that are chockablock with goods. The longer a customer is in the store, the better.

At the West Elm store this weekend in Chelsea (a NYC neighborhood), I came across this board of photos located strategically.
Share some retail love with your neighbors, provide a service, and maybe the love will come back to you. The perfect tool for a local business.
It helped 4 twenty-something girlfriends find a place for lunch as I was waiting for the bathroom.
