Thank you @ellieproctorantiques for re-stating this so eloquently. I too get so much joy from curating products that I believe my clients and customers will love. Personal attention in retail is sadly becoming a dying art, but those of us who truly do it from the heart, will be the most successful.

I thought someone called me "honey" at Javits a few weeks back. It turns out she was referring to the rooftop. Good work Javits on using that wonderful space to support local ecology and gastronomy.

How important are reviews to your business? It turns out, very important. Read my latest column from Tableware Today magazine on the importance of reviews.
Turning Reviews Into Sales
Does this sound like you...You need a hedge trimmer so you click on Google, read a few reviews, head to Home Depot, and make a purchase. You’re on a favorite clothing store’s website. The pants you’re interested in have poor fit comments so you choose something else. The reviews for the family theme park say it’s dirty...

4 Indisputable Signs Little Local Retail Is Becoming A Goliath
Local retailers are not going the way of the dinosaur.
The biggest competitor on the retail horizon is more likely to be called David than Big Department Store, and he’s got a slingshot full of technology to help him stand his ground.
As major brands from Macy’s to Foot Locker wrestle with competition from Amazon, small independent merchants are gaining a foothold on the retail landscape. More than half (54%) of U.S. sales are generated...

Imagine there is a company that does to bread what Bridge does to retail? There is: La Boulangerie and its founder seek to help resuscitate the French bread business. I enjoyed reading the parallels between the bread business and our retail industry. Both have seen manufacturers encroach up the food chain closer to the end consumer. Both have seen a degradation in the quality of the product. And both have seem a reduction in jobs that hurts the local community.

Carol Schroeder, a shop owner that writes about retail, suggests in her weekly column that stores give up and let Amazon and other online entities eat their lunch. Upon reading this, I had to ask: "pardon me?"
Carol appears to be wearing a troglodyte's writer cap. Steer clear of her advice. Bridge encourages you to use the most efficient tools to get online, get found in Google, and sell.
Excerpt from Carol's column:
"...Most of us didn't go into retailing in order to handle faceless orders ...

How can you understand SEO and Google? Check out this diagram I made comparing your physical store to your website. There are many parallels between the two.
Roof = your website’s page title & meta data. Very important. No two 'roofs' should be alike.
Signage = branding.
Front door = easy navigation on each page for quick access.
Display window = large pictures of products that you’re selling.
Store hours in the window = your website’s listing of ways to contact you, preferably on each page.
We are very excited to bring local jewelry maker Dana Carvalho owner and designer of Sweetie Pie Jewelry to Clinton this Thursday June 8th for a Trunk Show 12:30 to 7:00. Her designs are hand picked and brought to life by Dana's ability to look at clusters of metals and beautiful gems and visualize the stunning final product. Each piece is hand made, many from vintage finds during Dana's travels, resulting in unique and limited edition pieces. Just what we needed in downtown Clinton....something...
