“Tiny Ripples, Big Effect!” Thank you for supporting indie businesses. Your support is a driver to their success!
Notably, many indie Bridge stores have great websites. They’re: small stores with big websites. A shopper is getting all of the selection and value as when she/he shops at a big store.
We don’t believe shopping small should mean making small compromises. Shopping small means thinking bigger about small shops. #shopsmall #shoplocal

Today’s Times investigates commercial property valuations for the purpose of tax collection. The article suggests that brick-and-mortar retailers are gaming the system to unfairly reduce their property value and therefore pay local governments less in taxes. In Michigan, from 2013 to 2017, this may have cost local government $100 million.
While this a fair investigation to undertake, I ask the Times to investigate the harmful tax effects of millions of shoppers buying at Amazon. Should we be ...

Amazon will boost its two-hour delivery service to customers by building more Whole Foods, reports today’s WSJ. Amazon also offers a 30 minute grocery pickup. The retail future is increasingly about showing real-time stock online and encouraging customers to order it for delivery or pick it up. When Amazon gives faster delivery to more customers, those are often the same customers as those of indie stores. With these moves, Amazon is just eating more business’ customers.
Before Amazon, there was Sears with 350,000 employees reports today’s Times. A key difference between the two is that Sears provided quality benefits and wages to employees, Sears paid more per sale in taxes (aka helped local schools more), and Sears’ reach was largely limited to its immediate stores’ locations. Since there was no the Internet, the Sears catalog’s impact was limited.

India is passing laws to stop big tech from cornering the market. Does the U.S. government need to take a page from India? China, not our first go to for policy direction, has similarly had success with regulating its market to support local tech companies over international ones. I think some large U.S. tech companies engage in predatory behavior and have advantages that need to be curtailed to allow smaller, local U.S. companies to grow. Unfettered capitalism isn’t capitalism. It’s abusive ...
