Recently, two business friends told me to check out Shopify. They said they were using it to manage online stores. Since my company Bridge offers e-commerce software to 200+ retailers, I was curious to see how Shopify compared.
I signed up for an account as if I were a retailer.
I thought the sign up process was pretty easy. They didn't even ask me for a password. They automatically gave me one that I could change later.
Shinola, a Detroit-based manufacturer of gifts, reminds us in today's Times about another benefit of US-made gifts: jobs.

When we talk about supporting local businesses, we often don't think about this on the macro level: countries. I love that Toyota is building its largest factory in the world in the United States. Those Kentucky-based jobs will help produce shopping at local businesses. Thank you Toyota and Kentucky.

New Yorker article suggests economy is bound to rebound
This New Yorker article by James Surowiecki suggests that in just a few years Americans (and the world) will be consuming like its 1999. And I think there is some truth to this. If one adds to this information from another recent New Yorker article about cycles (one theorist says a bust comes every 8.6 years), then we do seem destined to recover. Aka: more people will be buying home goods soon.

This new home goods website Teroforma means well, but the navigation is horrible. They should've minded everyone's warnings about sites done entirely in Flash.
