I’m just back from the Dallas show. I met with some wonderful people from the mart and they’re ready to go digital.
In general, I’m seeing that more market buildings are finally taking digital seriously. Why are they finally doing so? Because Amazon is nipping at their retailers heels? Because Zola is stealing the indie store’s registry business? No. Sadly, the main thing that brought the markets up to speed on the weather outside is: their own livelihood. Faire, a startup tech company ...

E-commerce is going to double in the next seven years, predicts FedEx. When that happens, how prepared will your business be? How will you prepare your website, your staff, your shipping procedures, your pricing, and your sales expectations?
When e-commerce grows that much, who will control the market? How will customers shop? Via their mobile? Via Alexa? If e-commerce is the dominant form of shipping, how will your online product selection and prices be kept up to date online? If online ...

This month’s HFN magazine shares a letter that I wrote to the editor. In the letter, I encourage the industry to team up and push back against Amazon and big online entities in order to ensure our long-term survival. I welcome your feedback on it.

Fifty-four percent of people looking for a product go directly to Amazon.com, shared a front page story in this week’s Wall St. Journal. This 54 percent is not good for nearly anyone in our ...

Bridge now displays brand logos more prominently and in more locations.
A. Registry Pages
In the old Bridge 1.0,a customer would browse to a bride's registry, see a champagne flute, and there would not be a Waterford logo by the product. This shopper would likely not know the item was a Waterford item, and therefore not know the history and quality of the item. In 2.0, Bridge displays the Waterford logo below each item so the customer now immediately sees the Waterford logo and recognize the...

54% of people looking for a product go directly to Amazon. That’s not good for nearly anyone in our industry. Amazon takes a 30% cut and keeps all the customer’s contact information (email, tel, address). If you’re a retailer, you can’t operate a successful business giving away 30% of your 50% cut of a retail sale.
If you’re a brand, over the last few year you were probably relishing in selling direct, cutting out the rep commission, and getting 100% of the sale. Well now Amazon is your new ...

The default price floor for Smart Products is now $100. The old price was $50.
We increased the price floor to reduce the number of orders you may receive for small, 'one off' orders. Some Smart Brands have a $100 or $200 minimum order. By raising the price floor, we reduce the likelihood you'll have to place a special order yet not meet the minimum order.
Please note: even if an item have the price floor in effect, a customer will be prompted to call your store to order it, and can still add ...

Are you ready to lose $500? You could if you don't update your authorize.net account settings.
Recently, an identity thief entered 2,000 different credit cards on a retailer's Bridge website. They did so using a bot that entered in card information automatically into the website. Please note: an identify thief can do this process on just about any e-commerce platform—it’s not unique to Bridge. Credit card fraud is widespread online. Many thieves buy files of 1,000s of stolen credit cards and ’...
