Clients choose Bridge because we bring together many of the benefits of selling on Amazon or using Shopify.
To understand this, it helps to first view the e-commerce provider spectrum. Marketplace sites are on the left, and solo sites are on the right. In the marketplace model, the store's logo (the seller's logo) is often nowhere to be seen. The seller is like a cog in the machine working for 'da man (aka Jeff Bezos). On the other end, there is the solo website for ...

Online sales grew 47.2% between Nov. 1 and Christmas Eve compared with the same period last year... Meanwhile, overall U.S. retail sales grew just 2.4%.
During the seven days leading up to Christmas Eve, store traffic fell 31.3% compared with last year.
This growth comes at some expense: selling online is generally less profitable than selling from stores.
Clothing was not a safe harbor: between Oct. 11 and Christmas Eve, sales of apparel fell 19.1%
RetailDive shares that shoppers want a store with both a great website and a convenient location--something that retail leader Amazon may not offer.
Article highlights:
40% of stores now offer BOPIS.

Yiren Lu shares her experience of setting up a Shopify store in the New York Times magazine. Ms. Lu reports the setup process was easy, but her online Shopify store failed because it lacked marketing, aka eyeballs and orders. In her next article, I hope Ms. Lu tries Bridge. Bridge Store helps members fill the marketing component that Shopify is missing. When a store joins Bridge, Bridge instantly points hundreds of links to the store from other Bridge members, which Google sees and ...

While walking on 9th St. in Manhattan, I noticed an American Express sidewalk decal. This decal inspired me to create a Bridge sidewalk decal for indie stores.
I think that stating 'shop local' or 'shop small' misses many of the key desires by shoppers. I think that customers want low prices, lots of selection, and fast delivery. Those are the reasons they shop at Amazon and at other big box stores. Ask yourself: would you shop at a store that has less selection? Higher prices? Slower ...

Clearly list end dates for sales to create urgency.
This week, Amazon launched its online pharmacy targeting the 3.8 billion prescriptions filled in the U.S. each year. Shares of major pharmacy chains dropped about 10% on the news. Amazon honed this weapon in its Seattle lab and is eagerly unleashing it on retail chains and mom-and-pop pharmacies.
Something struck me while reading this news: Does Amazon remind you of Covid-19? The similarities:
Amazons kills many businesses in industries it touches. Pharmacies are now worried
This drawing shows how Bridge's design makes it quicker to administer your online business. Other platforms like Shopify have two 'sides': a back-end that clients use to manage their site and a front-end that shoppers experience. Bridge takes a different approach: we try to make the front-end and the back-end very similar. We believe they should look similar to make the experience consistent and easy to navigate. When a member is logged in as an administrator, we output edit links where needed.

Amazon may be misleading shoppers about who is selling item on Amazon, shares RetailDive. RetailDive covers a lawsuit settlement between Williams-Sonoma and Amazon. In the lawsuit, it appears that Amazon was suggesting that Williams-Sonoma was selling on Amazon when it's wasn't.. Excerpt:
"In its complaint, Williams-Sonoma said that "at the top of product pages for purported Williams-Sonoma products for sale on the platform and 'Fulfilled by Amazon,' the phrase 'by Williams-...

Today’s WSJ investigates the opportunities and importance of AI for retail. Expensive computer systems will deliver the search results that are most likely to produce a purchase. Customer profiles will be calculated to maximize customer happiness and sales. Stores lacking these costly digital tools and profiles will wither away.
Bridge is aware of these opportunities and is expanding its code base to embrace them.
Saks Fifth Avenue just launched a new website. Since more than 600 stores rely on Bridge Store to power their websites, I decided to compare the new site, which likely cost millions of dollars, to an indie retailer's Bridge Store software. An indie store pays pennies compared to Saks' millions, so the Saks site must be a million times better, right?
After a careful review, I'm happy to share that our indie stores have the better website. And, it sort of 'saks' for Saks that it spent millions ...

That is the question my family posed to me last night during our more-frequent FaceTime conversations.
With the passing Labor Day weekend, students entering their in-person or online school year, and the ending of a strange summer season during a global pandemic, people are looking forward to a time that can bring spirit and happiness to the darkness: the holidays.
But how holly and jolly will this holiday season be in terms of shopping? After all, the holidays are notorious ...

Good news: Bridge is helping your business make more sales and stop Amazon's growth. The reason: your Bridge team has gone to great lengths to ensure your Bridge software loads very quickly for your shoppers. A report shares that 41% of shoppers jump to Amazon when a site is slow. The report shares that the fastest site tested loaded in 2.2 seconds and the slowest was 43.9 seconds. Bridge's sites often load within 2 to 3 seconds, which places your Bridge Store at the front of the pack in ...

Part of my job is to review registry software. I ensure that it works well for retailers, registrants, and gift-givers (family and friends). I also assess whether it offers good value (price vs results).
A retailer recently shared with me that it uses the service MyRegistry.com. I reviewed the retailer's site and how a customer would make a registry purchase via MyRegistry.com. For privacy purposes, I changed the name of the store in the screenshots shown.
When a shopper visits a retailer's website, it often sees just a fraction of what a brand offers. With Bridge, we can help retailers and brands fix this problem. To examine the solution, let's examine how a customer can shop for Juliska on two different retailer websites. One retailer uses the Juliska Smart Products service and the other does not.
Your shoppers can now more easily know how the size of a product. On your Results pages, your software now outputs the length, width, diameter, height, and capacity.
In the example shown, we see that these Juliska are products are 11" and 9" wide. This makes comparing products easier, more accurate, and faster.
With this updated feature, your business no longer has to put dimensions in product names.
This new feature works in 'Shopping' and 'List' views.
As you may know, your business can load lifestyle pictures to each collection. Yet, an issue may arise: the picture may not be showing the ideal 'framing' of the photo. You may wish the frame showed more of the top or bottom of the picture. You can now adjust what Bridge shows from the picture.
In the example shown, we see a Casafina pattern. By default, the software shows the middle of the picture. Unfortunately, the bottom part of the picture is what we'd like to show the shopper. We can ...
