How products ‘break’ when shared digitally between suppliers and retailers
1. These vases represent a supplier’s original product data. The supplier has products images matched up to product descriptions with dimensions, care & usage, etc. These pieces of data are all embedded with each other and give an accurate, complete view of the products.
2. The supplier prepares to share its product with stores. To do this, the supplier has to break the data up into Excel and Dropbox files.
Enrico, the historic maker of wood products for the kitchen and home, is joining Bridge.
I read the founding story behind Enrico and enjoyed it. Please read this sweet story:
The Enrico Products collection began with a decades old hard cheese grater design borrowed from Enrico Ratti, the grandfather of co-founder Jim Ratti and has naturally been extended to other types of home décor and kitchenware. Enrico's first cheese grater creation was truly a labor of love. Just before the turn of the ...

What if I told you that Ohio was the world's largest producer of glass tableware? Well, that was the case in the 1960's. Anchor Hocking, located in Lancaster, Ohio, employed 5,000 craftspeople that sold glasses across the nation and world. Due to business and government changes, the town is now a ghost of itself. I highly recommend reading this WSJ book review that sums up history for many small American cities from 1960 to 2010.
Bridge supports and empowers American businesses and in order to ...

Today, Shopify emailed me asking me to choose one of its paid plans. My free trial with it is expiring. As you may recall, last week I setup an online store to check out the service in order to compare it to Bridge. (Please read my review of Shopify here.)
What I find interesting is that most services offer a free account. A free account often lets you enter a limited amount of products. Shopify does not offer a free account. It offers a free 14-day trial. Thereafter, plans start at $29/month.
We love when our lines are paired together. Loving the linens by Halo Home and china by Richard Ginori.

Today, a retailer in Tennessee called me with an issue. The person at the store was trying to add a Vera Wang pattern to the website. The employee couldn't find the items on Bridge. At first, we thought this may be an oversight on Bridge's part. But then we were told by the sales rep: the pattern had been discontinued. I was happy to hear this: Bridge helped the retailer put the brakes on adding a discontinued item. That is a success. Without Bridge, the employee would've proceeded to add ...

We have added a new feature to your registry.
You can now choose to not send a welcome email to a bride when you set the registry up.
The benefit of this is that you can enter the real email of a bride without having her be alerted that you're building a new registry for her.
This will allow you to enter the real email to each registry from the initial start up for it.
After you are happy with the status of the registry, you can e-mail the bride a link to the registry.
Recently, two business friends told me to check out Shopify. They said they were using it to manage online stores. Since my company Bridge offers e-commerce software to 200+ retailers, I was curious to see how Shopify compared.
I signed up for an account as if I were a retailer.
I thought the sign up process was pretty easy. They didn't even ask me for a password. They automatically gave me one that I could change later.
Let's face it: we all have to thank the Chinese. They invented the tableware that many of us sell. Today's Times shares how one of the primary production areas of china in China--named Jingdezhen--is becoming popular again. Sign us up for a class at their workshop :)

It is hard to believe that 20 years has passed since Arte Italica was first created by Ann Skidmore, a stay at home mom in CA. Ann started Arte Italica from her home and the first shipments were from her garage, with all the family helping out! A couple of years later, Arte Italica moved its offical office to NY and began warehousing on the east coast. Her dream had come true and years of beautiful Italian products were born!
It was pewter that Ann fell in love with and was the inspiration for...

Porcelain and other types of ceramics are such an integral part of our everyday life that it is not something we notice. This was not always the case. Porcelain was once the rarest of materials in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries so that only ...
