In this month’s HFN magazine, Editor Allison Zisko gives Bridge a shout out in her ‘Letter from the Editor’ column. She encourages the home goods industry to adopt digital marketplaces (trade shows) now, and notes that Bridge started offering an online platform for the tabletop industry years ago.
She notes that many big, well-funded trade shows (read IMC, which may spend $100m, and Messe) have suddenly seen the writing on the wall and are building competitors to Faire...

E-commerce sites get 21% of their traffic from organic Google searches, followed by Facebook (9.6%) and Instagram (1.5%), shares a study b Oribi. In other words, boosting your Google ranking is twice as important as posting on Facebook because more than 2x of your sales come from Google.
Sadly, I see many stores spending their 'marketing efforts' posting Facebook content--thereby helping Facebook sell ads to the store's competitors--and the stores inadvertently ignore the bigger sales ...

Sadly, we learned of this hack LAST week when it actually happened in...wait for it...April 2019–almost a year ago.
I predict that hacking is going to happen to more and more brands and stores in our industry. I think these victims will either turn over most online operations to a third party—or close due to costs. I know of a jewelry ...

When buying a gift online, customers will now be more likely to enter a gift message. Bridge added to the checkout page an image of a gift envelope and text asking "Include a Message With Your Gift?"
This gift envelope image and text will only appear if the purchase is for a gift registry purchase. If the purchase is not gift registry related, a customer can still enter a gift message.

News outlets like the Wall St. Journal have shared that Amazon is full of fake products, counterfeits, and listings with exaggerated prices. In today’s WSJ, Amazon shares it removed 1 million fake health products related to the Coronavirus. Amazon’s action supports the accusations that Amazon often fails when it comes to policing its marketplace. It’s rare ‘action’ is actually a sign of larger ‘inaction.’ While these Coronavirus products may have ...

Grocery stores are increasingly turning to robots—some with cute paste on eyes—to replace humans. While the eyes are cute, what does this mean for employment for the low skilled?
One way that Amazon keeps prices low is not hiring low-skilled workers when it can replace them with robots.
Also please note how easy it is to REGISTER AT THE BEST --- IN-STORE (whenever you want) --- to BROWSE AROUND, PEEK and PICK what is JUST RIGHT FOR YOU !!! ... or ONLINE on this beautiful website !!!
Lawrence was key in fighting for easier computer experiences where there is one interface instead of a 'backend' and 'front end'. Before Lawrence, it was common to do all your adding and editing in one 'view' or mode, and then switch to another mode to what you did. Lawrence helped merge these two worlds so you can add, ...

Amazon will be offering luxury brands mini-sites on which they can sell items, set their prices, and design the website’s aesthetics, shares today’s WSJ. This service will only be available to luxury brands. If this sounds...simply reasonable(!) then it shows how far Amazon has polluted retail. When the web started 25 years ago, it was about setting your own path, setting your prices, and dare I say adding your own design flourish. Thank you, Amazon, for bringing the web back ...

Ten years ago, we created a key part of the software that helps our retailers, brands, and reps.
Prior to Bridge Store, we had to make unique sites for these businesses and this was slow and expensive. Then we created Bridge Store, a template-based website with a shared code base. This enabled us to much more quickly and cost efficiently setup online accounts and stores.
The success of Bridge Store is evident in user growth: a decade ago we had just a handful of retailers and ...

I’m writing to sadly share that my dad Don Solarek passed away last week. He was quiet, thoughtful, and would gladly walk in New York City from the Battery to Harlem.
Don always had time to chat with me, share a story, give a lesson, and encourage me. He helped me with my paper route at 6 am when it was 3º in Rochester. He came to every high school cross country race and wrestling match—which were often held around 3:30 pm. Likely not ...

I visited the New York’s Post website--to get my fill of New York gossip--and I was shown a massive advertisement from a leading tabletop brand. (I have covered the brand's logo with yellow rectangles for the privacy of the brand.) Before visiting the Post's site, I had visited this brand's website. The ads appear because the brand has hired some advertising platform to track me around the web, show me ads, and direct me back to its DTC (direct to consumer) site.
Macy’s will be moving its flagship store and building a massive tower on the site. Then it may move back in or permanently leave site.
