When a white bowl is anything but basic, our Prosperity bowl with its 3-dimensional detailed rim in a matte finish is an adaptation of George Washington's dinner service dating back to the 1700s. The original was English salt glaze that we updated to high fired hard porcelain. This is just one of the pieces from Mount Vernon collection.

September 17, 2024
Your Shop Local Store has a new feature: You can now allow group gifting for registry items. Now, multiple friends and family members can contribute towards a gift for a registrant, making it easier to give high-ticket items.
A registrant receives group gifting contributions as a gift card from your store. The registrant can redeem their gift card to purchase the item. Items purchased with group gifting won't ship until purchased by the registrant.

There is a lot of psychology that goes into a positive shopping experience—including online shopping. I was reading in The Wall St. Journal about how to improve a vacation experience. The author encourages us to save the most enjoyable vacation part till the end of the trip because our mind is biased towards the most recent event. (In psychology, this is called the "recency effect.")
When I read this, it made me wonder: what is the last experience a gift giver has on our...

Ancient Greek philosopher Plato wrote in the Dialogue Republic, “A need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem.” This statement led to the phrase “Necessity is the mother of Invention." These words could very well describe Shop Local and how we came to exist. Over time, some have suggested the phrase could be tweaked to read “necessity is the mother of reinvention." This phrase also parallels Shop Local's ethos of supporting...

How to leverage newsletter discounts to compete with top brands.
August 28, 2024
Shop Local analyzed the websites for top selling brands in the tabletop and giftware industries. We noticed a common trend among these websites: a pop-up window offering a discount for signing up for a newsletter.
35% of the top 20 brands offer a discount for signing up for a newsletter. The discounts offered range from 10-20% off, and the only requirement is that a customer enters their email address to receive emails from the brand.
In the next few months, each one of us will be stepping away from our desk or retail store to go do something very important. One of us will drive over to the local library, one of us to the town hall, and one of us to an elementary school in the area. We will all leave the comfort of our homes and warmth and put ourselves into this...
