How AI, e-commerce, and shopping local come together with new tools.
May 28, 2024
This morning I greeted our team by saying, “Good morning, Scooby-Doos of website sleuthing.” I then wondered what the Scooby-Doo van would look like with the words “Shop Local” on it. In the past, one would spend time to make this mock-up in Photoshop. My colleague Mark was able to make the desired image in minutes using the AI tool Copilot and no Photoshop.
The ease with which one can use AI to make new images and envision ideas will impact retail. ...

India last month joined three other countries in the exclusive club that has put a craft on the moon. What’s unique about India’s accomplishment is that it did this at a fraction of what the U.S. spends on space exploration, shares Ben Cohen in The Wall St. Journal. While the U.S.’s NASA program has a $24b budget, India’s ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) budget is just $1.3b. India, which started its space program in 1963, is able to do more with less because of ...

Yesterday I spoke with an independent jewelry store that was targeted by cybercriminals. The criminals created a ransomware attack and held the store’s computer data hostage. The store had to scramble to find backup data and reopen. The store called the FBI and didn’t pay. The hackers then sent phishing emails to all the store’s customers—attacking the store’s customers and trying to infect them.
Last February e-commerce company Shopify Inc. replaced the “Ottawa, Canada” dateline that began its press releases and earnings reports with a strange new one: “Internet, Everywhere.” The geographical shift came at the insistence of Shopify’s founder and chief executive officer, Tobi Lütke, who tends to view such matters through the prism of cold, hard logic. In May 2020, only a few months into the pandemic, he’d made the early, seemingly rash decision to...

Sadly, we learned of this hack LAST week when it actually happened in...wait for it...April 2019–almost a year ago.
I predict that hacking is going to happen to more and more brands and stores in our industry. I think these victims will either turn over most online operations to a third party—or close due to costs. I know of a jewelry ...

Threatpost, a news site that tracks security issues, covers the Adobe patch that Bridge brought to Adobeβs attention.
ZDNet shares some news about the recent Adobe software patch that Bridge and its team discovered. We were happy to see this mention:
"Adobe credited five researchers for finding the zero-day --Charlie Arehart, Moshe Ruzin, Josh Ford, Jason Solarek, and Bridge Catalog Team. All are ColdFusion developers and support specialists, and not security researchers, the type of people who usually discover and report active zero-day exploitation."
Bridge recently reported to Adobe a security issue. Bridge's team also suggested a strategy to fix the hole. Adobe listened, followed the suggestion, and thanked us in the software patch announcement.

Acknowledgements Adobe would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for reporting these issues and for working with Adobe to help protect our customers:
