The last U.S.-based flatware manufacturer is profiled in today's Times. Sherrill used to make Oneida's products, but now makes its own line of flatware (sold primarily to the military) and does projects for other brands.

Are more retailers following Bridge's business model? This week's Wall St. Journal reports that more retailers are experimenting with not keeping stock in their stores. What if a customer places an order? The store mails it from the warehouse. Bridge has been at the forefront of this trend: starting in 2007, we output 1,000s of items on our retail members' websites and invited people to shop for products that were not in the store's immediate physical stock.
