NYC to Subsidize Amazon With Delivery Marinas and Hurt Indie Stores
I saw this Instagram post from official Mark Levine and thought, “How much are the Amazon lobbyists paying our officials?” NYC continually over taxes our indie businesses and fines them—but we’ll build six marinas for Amazon? (Mark said three marinas, but it’s actually six marinas.) The main culprits behind this: Mayor Adams and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC). Amazon is one of the richest companies in the world. Jeff Bezos, the founder, owns the biggest boat in the world. Leaders says this is a “green initiative.” Yes, it is: 💵💵💵 Mark, might as well just throw in a yacht for Jeff to the offer, too. 🛥️ He can dock it at one his six new marinas you’re giving him.
Building more delivery routes is akin to creating more roads to alleviate road traffic. Studies show that building more roads just encourages more driving—it doesn’t reduce traffic. Making it easier for Amazon to bypass our neighborly stores will help sink them and further float Amazon’s stock price.
